THE TEAM: Jane Miller
Jane is
an actor, singer and composer with a reputation for a dynamic
vocal range and powerhouse presence, which garnered her a Dora
Mavor Moore nomination for Best Performance in a Musical for “Shaking the Foundations”
at Buddies
in Bad Times Theatre in 1999. Other performing highlights include
“Almost There” for
Brookstone Theatre, “Body Geometry: The 7th Angel”
for The
Theatre Centre, and most recently, “The Two Gentlemen
of Verona” for Shakespeare
in the Rough in Toronto’s beautiful Withrow Park. Jane
also produced her own solo tour de force, “Disco Goalie”,
which played to sold-out houses at Artword
Theatre, Hamilton’s Theatre
Aquarius, and the Toronto, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Victoria Fringe
Festivals.
Upon graduation from Ryerson
Theatre School, Jane co-founded band Wind
May Do Damage releasing two independent albums from which
Jane’s song “Backseat of the Family Car” was
chosen for inclusion on HMV’s “Fresh Blood: Indie
Compilation” CD, and her song “Trying” was
chosen for Toronto’s “Local
Flavour” CD. She has opened for Arlo
Guthrie, Ani
DiFranco, Jeff
Buckley, and Moxy
Fruvous. As a composer, she created the a cappella
score for Michael
Redhill’s “Lake Nora Arms”, which received
its premiere at Theatre
& Company in 2005, and is currently working on a commission for Smile
Theatre. Jane pursues her acting career and coaches singing in downtown
Toronto, where she lives with her husband, Richard
Peters and their black cat, Sowelu.
